Location-Based Services Policy

Overview

SCN uses location-based services to enhance your experience by suggesting your country during the Social Civic Number (SCN) generation process. This policy explains how we use location data and your rights regarding this feature.

What We Collect

For location-based services, we collect:

• Device Locale: Your device's language and region settings (e.g., "en-US", "fr-FR")
• Timezone Information: Your device's timezone setting (e.g., "America/New_York", "Europe/London")

Sign-in location

Separately from country suggestion, we record the IP address each device signs in from, and may look up the approximate city, region and country associated with it. This is a security feature: it is how we can tell you where a new device signed in from, so you can recognise a sign-in that was not you. You can see and remove your devices at any time in the app.

An IP lookup is an estimate that can be wrong by a city or more, and it may include the coordinates of that estimate. It is not read from your device's GPS and does not describe where you physically are.

Important: We do NOT read your device's GPS, request location permission, or track your movements.

How We Use This Information

We use locale and timezone data exclusively to:

• Suggest your country during SCN generation for convenience
• Pre-select the most likely country code based on your device settings
• Improve the user experience by reducing manual data entry

⚠️ Important: Choose Your Country Carefully

While we suggest a country based on your device settings, you should verify and select the country where you actually reside to ensure access to all relevant local services and features.

Your Control and Choices

You have complete control over location-based services:

• Consent Required: We only use this feature with your explicit consent
• Manual Override: You can always change the suggested country manually
• Withdraw Consent: You can withdraw consent at any time through Settings → Privacy & Consents
• No Impact on Service: Declining this feature doesn't affect your ability to use SCN

Data Storage and Retention

• We only store the country you select, not the locale/timezone data used for detection
• The selected country becomes part of your permanent SCN identifier
• No location detection data is retained after country selection

Privacy and Security

We are committed to protecting your privacy:

• Location detection happens entirely on your device
• No location data is sent to our servers unless you accept the suggestion
• We use industry-standard security measures to protect all data
• We never share location-related data with third parties

Legal Basis

We process location-related data based on your consent under GDPR Article 6(1)(a). This consent is:

• Freely given - the feature is optional
• Specific - limited to country detection for SCN generation
• Informed - this policy explains exactly what we do
• Withdrawable - you can revoke consent at any time

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. If we make significant changes, we will:

• Update the version number and effective date
• Notify you through the app
• Request renewed consent if necessary
